James Oliphant talked about opinion and the possible impact on the upcoming elections of the Monday Supreme Court ruling that upheld an
Indiana law requiring voters to show government-issued photo
identification before casting a vote.
In a 6-3 decision, Justice Stevens wrote for the majority, saying
the evidence in the record did not support overturning the law.
Justice Scalia wrote a concurring opinion, saying the impact on the
few without valid state or federal ID is irrelevant, because the overall
burden is minimal and justified.
Mr Oliphant responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
