David Siroa talked about his new book, The Uprising: An Unauthorized Tour of the Populist Revolt Scaring Wall Street and Washington and Campaign 2008. The book is based on Sirota’s one-year tour of the United States, in which he gauged Americans views toward Wall Street and the Democrats and Republicans in Washington. Sirota asserts that Americans are angry at establishment institutions for neglecting and undermining policies that affect their economic well-being. The book traces the historical roots of populism and its force in national politics today. Sirota also examines the Democratic Party’s construction of the “superdelegate” system and its role in the presidential campaign. close
