Alice Hunt talked about the the status of the Air Force. On June 5, 2008, Defense Secretary Gates announced the resignations of U.S. Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne and Chief of Staff General Michael Moseley because of significant and systematic errors in the oversight, accountability and monitoring of nuclear weaponry. Ms. Hunt talked about the reasons for their resignations, the tension between the Air Force and of office of the Department of Defense, and Secretary Gates' recommendation of General Norton Schwartz as Air Force chief of staff and Michael Donley as Air Force Secretary. Topics included the mission of the Air Force and the tensions between different groups in the force. Ms. Hunt wrote an op-ed in the Star Telegram on the topic earlier in the week. She responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
