The Senate began consideration of the nomination of Clarence Thomas of Georgia to be an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. The Senate agreed to S.Res. 191, to authorize testimony by a member of the Senate in California v. Charles H. Keating, Jr. The senate passed by voice vote S. 1563, to authorize appropriations to carry out the National Sea Grant College Program Act. The Senate passed by voice vote H.R. 3280, to provide for a study, to be conducted by the National Academy of Sciences, on how the federal government can improve the decennial census of population. close
