University of Oklahoma Law Professor Anita Hill held a news conference upon her return to Oklahoma after testifying in the Supreme Court confirmation hearings of U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Clarence Thomas. Professor Hill had testified the previous Friday and Saturday to the Senate Judiciary committee that Judge Thomas had sexually harassed her when she worked for him in the mid-1980's in the Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Professor Hill said in the news conference that she did not have ulterior motives in testifying before the committee, and was offended by the attacks upon her character by members of the committee. She said she would have had more to gain by remaining silent. Professor Hill was greeted with cheers upon her return to the University of Oklahoma. The Senate vote on Judge Thomas' confirmation was scheduled for the following day. close
