Philippine Ambassador to the United States, Emmanual Pelaez, discussed the vote in the Philippines Senate to close Subic Naval Base and offered his analysis on how that decision would impact relations between his country and the United States. The U.S. granted the Philippines independence in 1946 but continued to maintain a presence on the islands with several military bases. Footage was then shown of a portion of the Philippines Senate debate dealing with the military base closing issue. close
