The Judicial Conference of the U.S. sponsored a forum on the balance between private lives and the public’s right to know during their conference marking the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Bill of Rights. The forum examined the boundaries between journalistic obligations to inform the public of newsworthy events and the privacy of individuals involved in public events with or without their voluntary consent. Topics in the discussion included the privacy of rape victims and the sexual lives of public figures. The speakers responded to questions from the audience following their prepared remarks. close
