The House Rules Committee continued looking into the “October Surprise,” an allegation that members of the 1980 Reagan campaign staff held secret negotiations with the government of Iran. Gary Sick, a member of the National Security Council during the Carter administration, has claimed that staffers from the Reagan campaign worked to ensure that Iran would not release the Americans held in the Tehran Embassy until after the 1980 presidential election. close
