Last month President Bush nominated his deputy White House chief of staff Andrew Card, Jr., to become the nation’s next transportation secretary. The committee met to take up the cabinet level nomination. If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Card would replace Samuel Skinner, who left the Department of Transportation to replace John Sununu as President Bush’s Chief of Staff. close
