Governor Robert Casey (D-PA) discussed the Supreme Court case Planned Parenthood v. Casey due to come up for arguments in the Supreme Court on April 22, 1992. Gov. Casey defended the state’s law he had signed which places restrictions on the medical procedure of abortion. Governor Casey said the law, which was at the center of the Supreme Court case, was a moderate and appropriate legal response concerning abortion that enjoys wide public support in Pennsylvania. Although many people believe the decision by the Supreme Court will set a precedent for the constitutionality of state laws concerning abortion, Gov. Casey stated his opinion that the Supreme Court could uphold the state law while not overturning its previous decision in Roe v. Wade. close
