Representatives of civil rights groups responded to questions from reporters in the White House driveway after meeting with President Bush to discuss the rioting occurring in Los Angeles, CA. The rioting started shortly after the announcement of the acquittal of four white police officers accused of beating a black suspect during an arrest videotaped by a Los Angeles resident. The civil rights leaders discussed the sense of injustice boiling beneath the surface of America’s inner cities, and listed a number of areas they called to the president’s attention, including the issues of racism and unemployment. close
