The subcommittee heard testimony from Ralph Johnson, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, and Eastern European analysts on the current situation in Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia continues to be torn asunder by combatants in a civil war which has been going on for over a year. The war, which arose from various ethnic tensions in the six independent states that were once Yugoslavia, has claimed the lives of approximately 12,000 combatants and civilians. close
