Shirley Chisholm, the first woman to seek the Democratic nomination for president in 1972, addressed the 20th annual victory luncheon of the United Black Fund in Washington, DC. Several speakers spoke during the luncheon lauding the efforts of the United Black Fund, and the need for such a resource for African-Americans in the future. Ms. Chisholm, a former member of the House of Representatives, called for the supporters of the United Black Fund to continue keeping the drive to succeed alive in economically deprived Americans. close
