The Senate discussed a bill that would set aside U.S. funds for aid to Russia and the other former Soviet Republics. The measure authorizes America’s contribution to the $24 billion multilateral aid package. Some of the money would go toward establishing a fund to assist with the stabilization of the Russian currency. The bill also provides for a $12 billion increase in the U.S. contribution to the international monetary fund. close
