Ron Brown talked about his background and how he began in politics. He grew up in Harlem where his father managed a landmark hotel. He talked about discrimination he faced when he was the only black student at Middlebury College and when the Sigma Epsilon fraternity he pledged was stripped of its charter. After service in the Army, he attended St. John’s Law School at night while working for the Urban League. He talked about his experiences in politics working with Sen. Edward Kennedy, Jesse Jackson’s presidential campaign, and as an influential Washington lawyer and lobbyist, and now as head of the Democratic National Committee. close
