In an excerpt from the House session, members of the House of Representatives debated an amendment to the agriculture appropriations bill for fiscal year 1993 which would strike down part of the bill’s appropriations covering debt forgiveness and other financial restructurings concerning the Food for Peace program for Latin American countries. The administration put forward the debt restructuring as part of the Enterprise for the Americas program. The House rejected the amendment in a vote of 78-333. close
