Gov. Casey spoke to the Boston pro-life organization Women Affirming Life on “Equal Justice for the Unborn: The Pennsylvania Experience.” The speech was Gov. Casey’s first major address since the Supreme Court handed down its decision in the case Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which concerned the legality of a Pennsylvania law restricting abortion. The Supreme Court decision upheld some of the Pennsylvania law’s restrictions, but also upheld the right of a woman to have an abortion. Gov. Casey called for the defense of the powerless, and advocated an emancipation proclamation for the unborn child. He also spoke of the growing political power of the pro-life movement, and urged the defeat of the Freedom of Choice Act. Following his prepared remarks, Gov. Casey responded to questions from the audience. close
