The subcommittee continued hearings on the inquiry into the conduct of U.S. District Court Judge Alcee L. Hastings. Roger Shuy, Professor of Linguistics at Georgetown University, spoke about the results of a linguistic analysis of recorded phone conversations between Judge Hastings and others. Professor Shuy concluded that. based on language used, the Judge was likely speaking in code. Roberto Martinez, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, testified that he had provided progress reports on wiretaps in criminal investigations to the Judge. According to Mr. Martinez, Judge Hastings could not be trusted with sensitive information.
