Speaking on a small stage with robotic machines behind him, President George HW Bush spoke to employees at Odetics, Inc., a defense oriented robotics corporation, to criticize the foreign policy and defense policies of Democratic presidential candidate Gov. Bill Clinton. The president specifically criticized Gov. Clinton’s proposals to cut defense, claiming it would cost as many as one million jobs. He also called for the audience to remove the incumbents from Congress, since Congress prevented the administration’s economic recovery plan from being enacted. The employees waived their caps and cheered loudly every time the name “Odetics” was mentioned in a display of company enthusiasm. The president answered no questions. close
