Celinda Lake and Brian Nienaber, Democratic and Republican pollsters respectively, discussed their analyses of a voter attitudes public opinion poll about the 2008 presidential election, and they responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. The poll, known as the “George Washington University Battleground 2008 Poll,” was a national survey of 1,000 likely voters conducted August 10-14, 2008. The poll indicates that Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are statistically tied, with McCain leading 47 percent to 46 percent in a survey with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. close
