Ted Widmer talked about Ark of the Liberties: America and the World (Hill and Wang; June 24, 2008). The book recounts a history of American foreign policy. Mr. Widmer contends that America has been the greatest advocate of freedom and recounts the countries foreign policy relations and what he argues has been a setback due to the recent war in Iraq. Mr. Widmer responded to questions from the audience following his remarks.

Ted Widmer was a speechwriter and senior adviser to President Bill Clinton. He is currently director of the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University and a Senior Research Fellow at the New America Foundation. Mr. Widmer is the author of several books, including Martin Van Buren a biography for The American Presidents series. close
