Representative Todd Akin talked about U.S. policy in Iraq and Afghanistan and responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. President Bush is leaving troops levels where they are, leaving it to the next president to decide about any major drawdown from Iraq. Representative Akin thinks the surge has worked, is especially supportive of the provisional reconstruction teams in Iraq that have worked to strengthen and support local and regional government structures in Iraq, and wants to leave drawdown decisions in the hands of the military. The Armed Services Committee, of which Representative Akin is a subcommittee ranking member, has a hearing today on Afghanistan and Iraq security and stability. close
