Representative Chris Van Hollen, chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Representative Thomas Davis, former chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, talked about the 2008 congressional elections. Representative Van Hollen talked about the advantage, unexpected by historical cycles, that Democratic candidates were seen to have during the upcoming 2008 election. He talked about the legislative successes and failures of the Democratic party. Representative Davis talked about the Democratic record on deregulation, and the way the prominent issue of the election has shifted from culture, to Iraq, to energy, to the economy, and might shift again before the election. They responded to questions submitted by members of the audience on topics including specific House races, the racial factor, voter turnout, voter registration, and campaign strategies. close
