“Newsmakers” looked at the political activities of pro-business and pro-labor groups involved in promoting their agendas in the final days of campaigning before the 2008 elections.

Chris Chafe talked by remote video from Raleigh, North Carolina, about the on-the-ground campaigning the unions were engaged in and votes for Senator Barack Obama from workers. Other topics included the labor movement’s legislative agenda, focusing on the Employee Free Choice Act and why he thinks it should be passed to allow card check-off elections in order to police the activities of employers.

William Miller then talked in the studio about the issues of concern to the business community including the Employee Free Choice Act, which ensures the right to a secret ballot for workers. He spoke about the need for an educated workforce that collaborates with management to ensure global competitiveness. Other topics included the campaigns and voting records of Senators Obama and McCain and the effect of the economy on the election. close
