Panelists talked about the political and social divide in America and discussed how it came about. America may be more diverse than ever, but people increasingly choose to live in neighborhoods of people who live, think, and vote as they do -- with polarizing results. The panelists responded to questions from members of the audience. Political documentary filmmaker Paul Stekler moderated.
Bill Bishop is the author of The Big Sort: Why the Clustering of Like-Minded America Is Tearing Us Apart (Houghton Mifflin; May 7, 2008). It was originally begun as a series of articles for the Austin American-Statesman that he wrote with Robert Cushing, a retired sociologist and statistician from the University of Texas.
