Justin Hyde talked about federal assistance to the auto industry and responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. On Saturday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid formally requested that Treasury Secretary Paulson consider giving the auto industry temporary assistance from the Troubled Assets Relief Fund, which was initially targeted to help the banking industry. Earlier this year Congress passed $25 billion in loan guarantees to the auto industry as part of the Energy Bill. close
