Author, former political strategist, and historian Kevin Phillips talked about his life and career. He discussed economics, including theory, statistics, and the current economic crisis. Among other topics he discussed politics such as political strategy and campaigns, his political career, his relationship with President Nixon, the religious right, and the decline of the Republican Party.

Mr. Phillips was a senior strategist for Richard Nixon’s 1968 presidential campaign and was a special assistant to the U.S. attorney general in 1969 to 1970. He became a regular political contributor to CBS News, NPR, and the Los Angeles Times. He is the author of over a dozen books including, The Emerging Republican Majority; Arrogant Capital: Washington, Wall Street and the Frustration of American Politics; The Cousins' Wars: Religion, Politics, and the Triumph of Anglo-America; Wealth and Democracy: A Political History of the American Rich; American Dynasty: Aristocracy, Fortune and the Politics of Deceit in the House of Bush; and his latest book Bad Money: Reckless Finance, Failed Politics, and the Global Crisis of American Capitalism. close
