Tavis Smiley, a broadcaster, author, advocate, philanthropist, and host of a PBS late-night talk show, gave his perspective on the news and issues that are shaping American life today. Topics included his departure from Tom Joyner’s radio talk show, the election of Barack Obama as president, and the issue of Roland Burris’s appointment to the Senate by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. He was interviewed by Matt Bai. Mr. Smiley responded to audience members' questions.
