Gregory Ip talked about the latest U.S. federal budget deficit figures and concerns from congressional Democrats about the Obama’s economic stimulus plan, and he responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) this week foresees deficit will hit $1.2 trillion for the 2009 budget year and the U.S. economy will contract by 2.2 percent. The CBO estimate also foresees the U.S. economy recovering only slightly to grow by 1.5 percent in 2010 and the unemployment rate eclipsing 9 percent early next year unless the Obama administration steps in. close
