David Levering Lewis moderated a conversation between Michael Meeropol, the eldest son of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg and his daughter, Ivy Meeropol, the director and producer of Heir to an Execution, which focuses on the legacy of her grandparents. Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were American communists who tried beginning March 6, 1951, for conspiracy to commit espionage. They were executed June 19, 1953, for passing information about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. The Meeropols also responded to questions from members of the audience.
Michael Meeropol is the author of several books, including Surrender, How the Clinton Administration Completed the Reagan Revolution. Mr. Meeropol has been a regular commentator on politics and economy for the Albany NPR station, WAMC-FM and is currently Chair of the Department of Economics at Western New England College. Mr. Meeropol is the eldest son of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg and is co-author of We Are Your Sons, The Legacy of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg.
Ivy Meeropol is a producer and director of documentary films, which include Heir to an Execution that focuses on her grandparents Ethel and Julius Rosenberg.
David Levering Lewis is the author of several books, including two biographies of W.E.B. Du Bois, W.E.B. Du Bois, 1868-1919: Biography of a Race and W.E.B. Du Bois: The Fight for Equality and the American Century, 1919-1963 that have each been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for biography. close
