A hearing called “The Need for Increased Fraud Enforcement in the Wake of the Economic Downturn” was held on The Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act introduced by Senators Leahy and Grassley. Witnesses testified about Justice Department prosecution of corporate corruption and fraud, and renewed efforts by law enforcement officials to investigate allegations of corporate malfeasance. They said that there wa renewed commitment to finding fraud in the marketplace, and that they were currently looking into more than 530 cases. Among them wre 38 investigations of name-brand businesses and financial institutions involved in the financial crisis, including American International Group, Countrywide Financial, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. close
