Representative Barbara Lee talked about her autobiography Renegade for Peace and Justice. Topics included the election of President Obama, being the only member of Congress to vote “no” on the Authorization for Military Force Against Terrorists resolution in 2001, and comments made by Attorney General Eric Holder earlier in the week on the issue of race in the United States.
Representative Lee was elected in 1998 in a special election to replace Ron Dellums, who retired. She represents California’s 9th District, which includes Oakland and Berkeley. Her committee assignments include Foreign Affairs and Appropriations. On January 6, 2009, she was inducted as the new chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.
