A panel discussion was held on health care reform. Representative John Dingell spoke on spiraling health care costs to Medicare, Medicaid, and businesses and individuals, and he talked about recent and ongoing health care reform efforts made by Congress. Governor Leavitt compared the current U.S. economic situation to Argentina’s economic problems in the last decade and said that health care reform should be addressed in the context of the economic situation. He stressed that the question of government involvement in health care reform is not if it should be involved, but rather how the government should be involved. Discussion focused on ideas for reform.

This was a session of the winter meeting of the National Governors Association, held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel. close
