Elaine Showalter talked about her book A Jury of Her Peers: American Women Writers from Anne Bradstreet to Annie Proulx (Knopf; February 24, 2009). In her book she presents a history of female writers in America and the prejudices against women writers. Ms. Showalter explores the influence women have had on the American literary canon and profiles authors from throughout the history of the nation. She talked about how she came to write the book and her methodology. Sara Nelson was the guest interviewer.

Elaine Showalter is the author of several books, including A Literature of Their Own: British Women Novelists from Bronte to Lessing. She has been the chair of the Man Booker International Prize jury and has judged the Orange Prize and National Book Awards. Elaine Showalter is a professor emerita of English at Princeton University.
