A hearing was held on recent revelations that the Smithsonian Institution failed to address dangerous workplace conditions, including the presence of asbestos in museum walls. Allegations were made of insufficient precautions to ensure the safety of museum visitors and workers.

A hearing was held on allegations of asbestos exposure at Smithsonian Institution museums. It was held in response to a Washington Post story about a worker at the National Air and Space Museum who was diagnosed with a lung disease. Construction officials and asbestos experts testified in the second panel. Among the topics they addressed were past and current institution policies for addressing asbestos control. close
