French President Nicholas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a joint press conference about issues before the G-20 economic summit in London. Chancellor Merkel and President Sarkozy both agreed that a “new constitution of financial markets must contain concrete results.” When asked if he was going to skip the summit, President Sarkozy responded that it would be “awkward to leave when he just arrived.” Several media outlets had reported on rumors that the French president would walk out of the summit if no progress was made on global financial regulations.
