The Joint Economic Committee held a hearing on the second quarterly report of the the special inspector general for TARP (Troubled Assets Relief Program). Neil Barofsky testified about investigations into fraud, waste and abuse of TARP funds, as well as allegations that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson pressured Bank of America chief executive Ken Lewis to keep quiet about the big losses incurred by the bank’s acquisition of Merrill Lynch. close
