Arnie Bernstein talked about his book Bath Massacre: America’s First School Bombing (University of Michigan Press; March 16, 2009). In his book he presents a history of the worst school attack in U.S. history. On May 18, 1927, school board treasurer Andrew Kehoe set off explosives in the basement of the Bath Consolidated School in Bath, Michigan, that killed 38 children and 6 adults. Mr. Kehoe also killed himself by explosive detention in his car, burned his farm, and murdered his wife. Mr. Bernstein details how Bath was changed after the attack and profiles several of the survivors. Mr. Bernstein talked about Mr. Kehoe’s history and psychological profile. He also talked about the process of researching the book. Mr. Bernstein responded to questions from members of the audience. This event was held on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at 1 p.m. ET in the Downtown Lansing Library by the Capitol Area District Library.
