Gillian Tett talked about her book Fool’s Gold: How the Bold Dream of a Small Tribe at J.P. Morgan Was Corrupted by Wall Street Greed and Unleashed a Catastrophe (Free Press; May 12, 2009). The book tells the inside story of how a team at J.P. Morgan devised the new financial product known as credit derivatives which produced “a revolution in banking.” She argues that during the housing boom this product was perverted by greed, which led to the market collapse of 2008. She also discusses how banks handled risk in different ways. She talked about how and why she came to write the book and responded to questions from members of the audience.
