Christina Romer testified about health care reform proposals and the potential economic impact of plans to expand health care coverage to all Americans and reduce costs. She said costs could be controlled in part by changing the incentives for care providers and removing waste in the current system. These could include such things as increasing preventive care and programs to tackle obesity and smoking.

This was the first of three panels to examine a tri-committee plan to provide a public health care option. close
