Witnesses testified about Obama administration proposals on financial regulation restructuring. They focused on the possible creation of a new Consumer Financial Protection Agency. Mr. Bernanke said that taking on formal responsibility for supervising the health of the financial system would be a natural outgrowth of the Federal Reserve’s existing duties. He also said he opposed several reforms that might reduce the authority held by the Federals Reserve or reduce its independence. close
