D.D. Guttenplan talked about his book American Radical: The Life and Times of I.F. Stone (Farrar, Straus and Giroux; May 26, 2009). In his book Mr. Guttenplan recounts the life of journalist I.F. Stone. Utilizing several sources, including documents recently made available through the Freedom of Information Act, Mr. Guttenplan presents new insights on the columnist whose reportage spanned from the Great Depression to the Vietnam War. Mr. Stone, who wrote for The Nation, PM, and I.F. Stone’s Weekly, was often labeled an iconoclast who was tracked by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during his career. Mr. Gutteplan responded to questions by members of the audience.

D.D. Guttenplan is the author of The Holocaust on Trial: History, Justice and the David Irving Libel Case. He is currently a London correspondent for The Nation magazine and was formerly a writer for New York Newsday. close
