Panelists talked about the use of immigration as a political wedge issue, using a paper by Ruy Teixeira, “The Coming End of the Culture Wars,” as the starting point. In his remarks Mr. Teixeira argued that shifting demographics have rendered obsolete polarizing issues such as immigration that conservatives have utilized in recent elections. Other topics included ongoing debate on health care reform, how Democrats can maintain Latino voters, and immigration reform. Following their discussion panelists replied to questions from audience members. close
