John Limbert spent 33 years in the U.S. Foreign Service before joining the Naval Academy. He was held hostage in the American Embassy in Tehran for 14 months. He served as ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania from 2000 to 2003. Mr. Limbert is the author of Iran: At War with History and Shiraz in the Age of Hafez.
