Alia Malek talked about her book A Country Called Amreeka: Arab Roots, American Stories (Free Press; October 6, 2009). In her book she presents personal stories of Arab immigrants in the U.S. against the backdrop of major events in U.S. history. The stories range in time from shortly before the Kennedy assassination to shortly after the invasion of Iraq. She talked about why she wrote the book and showed slides as she read excerpts from the book. She also responded to questions from members of the audience. This event was held at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, December 10, 2009, in the Library and Resource Center at the Arab American National Museum. close
