Representative Joe Barton, ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, talked about environmental issues and responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. In a Washington Times op-ed he cited a Gallup poll statistic that 41% of Americans think the threat of global warming is exaggerated. Representative Barton also believes that a cap and trade system would result in a loss of millions of jobs and higher gas prices and electric bills.
