Helen Manning talked about her life and teaching high school at the Minidoka Relocation Center in Idaho during World War II. She recalled her experiences as a Caucasian teaching Japanese-American students and the evolution of her understanding of the forced relocation of Japanese Americans. Her camp experiences later led her to work in the field of race relations.

This is the first of two parts.

This interview from the Densho Visual History Collection was conducted by Alice Ito on August 2, 2003, at the Doubletree Seattle Airport Hotel at the Seattle-Tacoma (Sea-Tac) International Airport where a reunion was being held of those interned at Minidoka. close
