Paul Steiger talked about collaboration and competition in journalism. He also responded to questions from the audience.

Mr. Steiger, the 2007 winner of the National Press Club’s Fourth Estate Award, also serves as president and chief executive of ProPublica, an independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest. ProPublica won a Pulitzer Prize in investigative reporting for its examination of how an overwhelmed hospital staff reacted at a New Orleans hospital during Hurricane Katrina. Steiger previously served as managing editor of the Wall Street Journal from 1991 to 2007 -- an era when the Journal won 16 Pulitzer prizes. close
