President Obama and Prime Minister Cameron participated in a joint news conference. In his remarks Prime Minister Cameron called the release of the Lockerbie bomber a mistake. The Scottish authorities released Abdel Basset al-Megrahi over a year ago on compassionate grounds after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Several senators have called for an new inquiry into the matter after allegations that BP had lobbied for the release to get a oil drilling contract with Libya. This was Prime Minister Cameron’s first White House visit since taking office in May. close
