Former Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad spoke about terrorism and efforts to combat terrorist groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In his remarks he said he wanted the U.S. to remain the pre-eminent power in the world, because he says in recent history multi-polarity led to two world wars and bi-polarity led to the Cold War. He and two members of the previous panel responded to questions from the audience on future options for Afghanistan.

“America’s Strategic Choices: More Consequential Today than in Generations” was the concluding speech of the day-long conference, “Cutting the Fuse: Beyond the War on Terrorism,” held in the Capitol Visitor’s Center Auditorium. close
